There’s a changing of the guard at Impact Fund in Berkeley: longtime executive director Brad Seligman is stepping aside to make way for his deputy, Jocelyn Larkin. She’ll take over the day to day administration, while Seligman (who founded the outfit) becomes “senior counsel.”
Seligman will still handle some cases, including the mammoth Wal-Mart gender discrimination litigation in which class certification was recently upheld by the Ninth Circuit (sub. req.). Wal-Mart will most definitely ask the U.S. Supreme Court for cert. Leaving the executive director slot will free Seligman from such “fun stuff,” he said, as writing annual reports. The Impact Fund is involved in some of its own cases, and also provides grants to help further public interest litigation.
Seligman said it was important for the long term health of the Fund to have a succession, and they started planning it in earnest a year ago. The group has an annual operating budget of about $1.2 million, he said, and has weathered the economic downturn without laying off staff or cutting programs.
