Matthew Fong, the former California state treasurer and attorney at Sheppard, Mullin, Richter & Hampton, died on June 1 from skin cancer. He was 57.
Fong began his career as a transactional associate at Sheppard Mullin in 1985 after receiving his J.D. from Southwestern University in 1985, M.B.A. from Pepperdine University in 1983 and B.S. from the United States Air Force Academy in 1975.
"Matt was a consummate gentleman, universally friendly to staff and lawyers,” Sheppard Mullin partner Richard Brunette said in a statement, adding that Fong brought “a blend of fiscal, political and global expertise to his public-private sector practice.”
