Alameda County Deputy DA Paul Hora (right) helped introduce his mother, Peggy, as she received California Women Lawyers' Rose Bird Memorial Award on Friday. Paul Hora said the journey his mother made from homemaker in the 1960s, to single mother, to lawyer and then a stalwart of the Alameda County bench was "mind boggling" -- though not unlike the challenges many women face.
Peggy Hora, who retired from the bench in 2006, was known especially for her judicial education work in the area of substance abuse -- particularly the issues posed by pregnant offenders with drug addictions. State Bar prosecutor Cydney Batchelor, who collaborated with her on Bar programs for substance-abusing attorneys, said she liked to call Hora "the diva of the drug court."
Below, Superior Court Judge Brenda Harbin-Forte helps introduce Hora at Friday's ceremony. The event was held at the Oakland offices of Wendel, Rosen, Black & Dean.
