Another day, another Heller lawyer gone.
Corporate partner Kyle Guse has jumped from the firm’s Silicon Valley office to McDermott Will & Emery. Guse told Legal Pad that the current rumblings at the roughly 700-lawyer Heller had nothing to do with his decision to leave.
McDermott has a strong IP practice in the Valley, but its corporate practice there is still in its infancy (see Wednesday's story on Cal Law about firms reaching beyond their strong suits). That was one reason that Guse decided to join.
“I came exactly because there was not a well-established practice here — I wanted to be part of something that was growing,” Guse told us. “To me the process of building is exciting and I want to be a place where I can build and grow instead of a place where I would be a cog and just plug in and go.”
Guse represents biotech and tech companies and said he’ll be bringing his clients with him to the new firm.
So tell us, loyal reader(s), what is going on at Heller? Are more partners going to leave? Will captain Matt Larrabee guide the firm to safety?
