Contract (temp) attorneys work just as many hours for FAR fewer perks (if you consider health insurance a "perk") than associates--not because contract attorneys are not capable of doing the work, but because law firm hiring does not take qualitative criteria into account. It's also very interesting that the ranks of contract attorneys are FAR more diverse than law firms. Contract attorneys are picking up more of the grunt work, but they haven't seen a raise in years. Why should associates, who are uniformly from families where parents were higher wage earners, just continue to hoard the wealth? I think they should stop complaining.
