At San Francisco Superior Court today, Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger’s own lawyer bungled the name of the state’s next chief justice during a hearing on the proposed sale of 11 state buildings. It sounded like, flustered, he settled on “Connie Sakauye.”
He wasn’t the first, and he won’t be the last as Tani Cantil-Sakauye takes over for Ron
George as chief justice on Jan. 3. Chronic mispronunciations have been in effect around town, from her own confirmation hearing to Judicial Council meetings.
Just for future reference, it’s "Tah-nee Canteel-Socka-ooo-way."
