As if waiting in line at the DMV weren’t miserable enough.
The Transgender Law Center is investigating a report that a San Francisco Department of Motor Vehicles employee sent a hateful letter to the home of a transgender woman whose paperwork she processed.
The woman, Amber Yust, had gone to the San Francisco DMV office last week to change her name on her driver’s license.
In the letter that Yust received Monday, the DMV worker allegedly cited the Bible and told her that she had made “a very evil decision,” that she was “an abomination,” and that homosexuals should be put to death.
“This was an egregious act committed by a government employee,” said Masen Davis, executive director of the Transgender Law Center, in a press release. “Transgender people deserve to be treated with respect at agencies like the DMV. What happened to Amber is despicable, and we intend to do everything we can to hold the responsible parties accountable and to prevent this from happening again.”
No response yet from the DMV.
