U.S. News & World Report has dived into the crowded field of law firm rankings, but as our sister publication points out, no single firm gets the No. 1 title.
Instead, readers can search by firm name and check out how it ranks in various practice areas locally and nationally. Orrick, for instance, has landed in tier one nationally for its employment, insurance, Native American, project finance and securitization law practices. Its antitrust practice ranks first in San Francisco, but third nationally.
Morrison & Foerster, another big Bay Area firm, is ranked among the best nationally for advertising, banking and finance, energy and other areas of law. Its bankruptcy and corporate law practices, among others, earned it a third-tier spot nationally.
The rankings can also be searched by practice area. A look at intellectual property law shows an alphabetical listing of tier one firms, led nationwide by Goodwin Procter; McDermott Will & Emery; and Morrison & Foerster.
