A federal judge ruled yesterday that Bill Lerach, former securities litigator, can't be Bill Lerach, teacher, and expect to get community service credit toward his sentence. During the hearing, U.S. District Judge John Walter read several statements in which Lerach appeared to show no remorse for his crimes.
According to The National Law Journal:
"As a result, Walter said, the only message Lerach could offer students was this: 'Don't get caught.'"
Lerach did not attend the hearing.
A spokesman for UCI Law School, where the class was to be held, said that discussions between Lerach and Dean Erwin Chemerinsky regarding the class never "came to fruition" and that there are no plans to proceed with it.
I only hope that when the case against BP come before the court, the same hard-ass judge will be presiding: http://lawblog.legalmatch.com/2010/06/15/bp-cant-avoid-paying-up-with-bankruptcy-can-it/
