Last night, the embattled city of Bell – which made national news when citizens discovered their city manager was taking home $800,000 a year – hired a lawyer from Oakland-based Meyers Nave to serve as its interim City Attorney.
“Meyers Nave was selected based on its reputation as one of the state’s premier public law firms,” Bell Mayor Oscar Hernandez said in a press release.
James Casso takes the place of Edward Lee, formerly with Best, Best & Krieger, who resigned from his his post as the city attorney in the wake of the scandal. (Best, Best & Krieger announced his departure from the firm on Monday).
Amid a tsunami of public indignation over Bell’s outrageously well-compensated city officials, State Controller John Chiang said this week that, starting in November, the salaries for all city and county officials will be posted on a state website.
