In Marin County, with about half the votes counted, Superior Court Judge Paul Haakenson is cruising to an easy victory over challenger Mark Burton, a Hersh & Hersh partner. Haakenson has about 78 percent of the vote to Burton's 21 percent.
In one of three open seat contests in Santa Clara County, prosecutor JoAnne McCracken is well ahead of foreclosure defense attorney (and former public defender) Thomas Spielbauer. McCracken has 76 percent of the votes to Spielbauer's 23 percent, with about a third of the precincts counted.
Solo Vanessa Zecher is ahead of retired prosecutor Timothy Pitsker, with about 62 percent of the votes to his 38 percent.
In the third race, prosecutor Julia Alloggiamento has a 57 to 43 percent lead over Foley & Lardner of counsel Robert Camors.
Over in Alameda County, Victoria Kolakowski was leading a three way race. With a quarter of the votes tallied, Kolakowski, an administrative law judge who says she would be the nation's first transgender trial judge, had about 46 percent. Prosecutor John Creighton had about 31 percent, and attorney Louis Goodman had 21 percent.
