Steven Choi, the Oakland attorney who aspires to be the Mark Zuckerberg of the legal community, has launched a new networking site for attorneys. Rather than focus on news or status updates, this one aims to save practitioners money.
Choi's website, GroupESQ, follows the "collective buying power" model pioneered by Groupon, where retailers offer discounts on merchandise or services if enough buyers come together for a group purchase. On GroupESQ, vendors of legal services like court reporters and process servers are offering sweet deals -- if enough attorneys team up to buy.
Choi has signed up Barkley Court Reporters, ADR Services and Attorney Assistance contract attorney company, among other vendors. He hopes his original social networking site, LawLink, will drive potential buyers to the site.
So how long until there's a website where law firms offer group discounts on legal services? That would be a challenge, Choi admits. But, he says, "You know what? At some point we'll look into that."
