In a somewhat shocking turn of events, Above the Law is reporting that Cravath has un-deferred some of its 2010 class. The white shoe firm had preemptively deferred its would-be first year associates last June, when it also deferred its 2009 class.
Some 3Ls are telling ATL that they received notice that part of the 2010 class will be eligible to start on time, fall 2010. Rumor is, Cravath will choose who starts on time by lottery. Only those who did not find pro bono or other work to tide them over through their deferral will be eligible for the lottery. Way to punish the industrious, Cravath!
So why is the firm letting some associates in the door early/on-time? According to the email to 3Ls, the amount of work has increased "substantially" and Cravath believes the "trend is likely to continue."
Here's hoping!
