Chris Kelly, as seen on his Facebook profile. |
When pursuing elected office it pays to be rich or popular. Chris Kelly, the former Facebook GC who’s running for attorney general, appears to be in the first category. He just dumped $2 million into his campaign on New Year’s Eve, the day before the end of the latest fundraising period. That is a serious stack of McKinleys from a candidate that got off to a slow start.
The news comes to us via the Twitter feed of our intrepid Sacramento reporter Cheryl Miller, via Jason Kruger’s Twitter page. It’s a new era in journalism, people. Here’s the actual filing.
To put it into perspective, during the first six months of 2009 Kelly raised $62,000, while the frontrunner, S.F. DA Kamala Harris, raised $1.2 million. Harris, incidentally, has relied more on others for fundraising. Her latest reports show a $6,500 check from Hollywood mogul David Geffen. And as we know Geffen discovered Linda Ronstadt, who dated current AG Jerry Brown. Who's not yet a declared candidate. But we hope Kamala cashed the check.

Geffen desperate for air access. Leaving lots hanging. Unlikely this donation will help, but keep him chasing his tale, it's cute.
