Hastings College of the Law has tapped Howard University law school professor Frank Wu to be its next dean and chancellor.
The decision came this morning after a unanimous vote from the board of directors, said Bruce Simon, who chaired the dean search committee.
Wu, pictured at left, is former dean of Wayne State University Law School, where he was the nation’s youngest law school dean, according to Hastings.
Simon said the top criteria were national prominence and fund-raising track record. Wu got Wayne two of the largest gifts in the law school’s history, he added.
Wu beat out four other finalists: Hastings professor David Faigman; Jamienne Studley, president of Public Advocates Inc., and the only candidate from outside academia; Mary Crossley, currently dean at University of Pittsburgh School of Law; and Symeon Symeonides, dean at Willamette University College of Law in Oregon.
