Heller's L.A. Chief May Be Headed to Milbank

Word on the street in L.A. is that Heller Ehrman's L.A. managing partner Jerry Marks is jumping ship to Milbank, Tweed, Hadley & McCloy  He'll be taking charge of Milbank's litigation practice in Los Angeles.

If true, the move adds to the troubles Heller has been facing this year, as management has warned partners that profits may be below projections.  Several longtime partners left Heller's San Diego office earlier this year, and two weeks ago the firm layed off 65 staff firmwide.

Marks has been with Heller since 1998 -- and has been managing partner of L.A. since 2002 -- and is a member of the firm's securities litigation group.  According to his Heller bio, he's worked with clients such as Credit Suisse First Boston, JP Morgan Chase, Deutsche Bank, and Bank of America Securities.

Milbank's L.A. outpost has 60 lawyers.
